Nothing creates more excitement than seeing the Nollywood industry breaking grounds and exploring different spheres and areas of the world.

In recent times, we have seen Nollywood take on some unique and interesting coloration which has built interest from viewers all around. However, these viewers keep yearning for more unique contents and movies from Nollywood.

Nollywood movie star, Lota Chukwu, unveiled on her Twitter page that she is working on a documentary film for the International Federation of Association Football FIFA. This of course has created excitement from fans and lovers of Nollywood. Lota chukwu gained popularity after starring in popular Nigerian TV series, Jenifa’s Diary, alongside Funke Akindele, Juliana Olayode, Falz where she plays the role of “Kiki”, a friend of the lead character, Jenifa.

A documentary film or documentary is a non-fictional motion-picture intended to “document reality, primarily for the purposes of instruction, education, or maintaining a historical record. The Nollywood industry has created quite a couple of documentary films such as Skin, created by Beverly Naya, Marked, directed by Nadine Ibrahim, Elders Corner, directed by Siji Awoyinka, The Redeemed, directed by Morten Vest, Ghetto Dreams: The Dagrin Story, directed by Daniel Ademonikan, and many more.

Meanwhile, it is safe to say that in all of these documentaries that have been created in the past, only Skin gained a lot of popularity. Now the question is, why is this so?

It is not a denial of fact that Nigerians have their interests when it comes to movie contents. Many Nigerians will rather watch movies with fictional stories and a lot of twists. Hence, it will be hard to create contents for Nigerians that doesn’t involve a lot of drama, activities and action. Maybe that is the reason these documentaries do not gain lot popularity and interest from fans.

Meanwhile, maybe something could be done differently when creating documentary contents for the interest of Nigerians. While it is understandable that documentaries have to be factual, it could be infact very possible to throw in a dash of something that can catch and withhold the interest of viewers. For example, Bobrisky featuring in the Skin documentary. It can not be denied that this raised more interest for the documentary.

Notwithstanding, we look forward to what the Nollywood movie star will do with the upcoming documentary project for the International Federation of Association Football FIFA. While we anticipate, we hope that a niche will be carved because this have the capability to once again put Nigeria on the map.
