Renowned Nigerian gospel musician Sinach is embroiled in a ₦5 billion copyright lawsuit filed by music producer Michael Oluwole, better known as Maye. The legal dispute centres on Sinach’s globally acclaimed 2016 hit song, Way Maker.

Sinach, who has consistently denied the allegations, maintains she is the sole author of Way Maker. In her defence, she highlighted her long-standing global recognition in gospel music, asserting that her success predates the release of the disputed song.

The legal battle commenced at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, 27 November 2024. However, after initial proceedings, the court adjourned the trial to 29 and 30 January 2025.

Way Maker has achieved immense success worldwide, becoming a staple in churches, concerts, and even mainstream music charts.
