Jaiye Kuti tribute to Henrietta Kosoko takes centre stage as the actress honours her late colleague at a Lagos film premiere

Nigerian actress and filmmaker Jaiye Kuti on Wednesday paid a poignant tribute to her late colleague Henrietta Kosoko by presenting a posthumous Award of Honour at the premiere of her new film Jaiyeola Monje (The Anniversary) in Lagos.

The emotionally charged moment unfolded at the film screening in Ikeja, where veteran actor Antar Laniyan presented the award to Temilade and Sola Kosoko on behalf of the late Henrietta Kosoko.

Jaiye Kuti honours late Henrietta Kosoko, the tribute drew a reflective atmosphere as industry colleagues gathered to honour the memory of the late actress, who passed away in 2016.

Antar Laniyan, while presenting the award, described the gesture as a celebration of Henrietta Kosoko’s enduring legacy, offering prayers for her soul and acknowledging the importance of remembrance within the film industry.

Receiving the award on behalf of the family, Temilade Kosoko expressed gratitude to Jaiye Kuti for the recognition, noting that the family continues to honour Henrietta Kosoko’s legacy nearly a decade after her passing.

Temilade also revealed that several projects are in development to preserve and celebrate the late actress’s contributions to Nollywood.

Henrietta Kosoko, the wife of veteran actor Jide Kosoko, died on June 6, 2016, after collapsing at her residence in Bariga, Lagos. She was widely respected for her performances in Yoruba-language films and her contribution to the Nigerian entertainment industry.

The premiere also showcased Jaiyeola Monje (The Anniversary), a film directed by Oluwale Adebayo. The production features an ensemble cast including Jaiye Kuti, Antar Laniyan, Bimbo Oshin, Fathia Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Pasuma, Itele d Icon and Yinka Quadri.

According to its synopsis, the film explores a gripping narrative centred on two lovers bound by a spiritual pact, with events that blur the boundary between life and death.

The evening combined cinematic celebration with a deeply emotional remembrance, underscoring the lasting impact of Henrietta Kosoko on Nigeria’s film industry.
