Nollywood built with tears and blood

Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo links women’s singleness in their 30s to choices made in their 20s, urging reflection on relationship priorities.

Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has weighed in on the subject of women remaining unmarried in their 30s, attributing the phenomenon to choices made earlier in life.

During a recent interview with News Central, the celebrated actor provided a candid perspective on how relationship dynamics in a woman’s 20s may influence her marital status later.

Kanayo argued that many women who are single in their 30s spent their younger years prioritising relationships with wealthy, often married older men over potential husbands closer to their age.

According to him, this pattern of decision-making can lead to challenges in finding a spouse as they approach their 30s.

He explained, “Some girl will be in the university at 18, 19, 20, she starts dating a very rich guy, sometimes, very old too.

Then what you see along the line is that because the guy is very rich and probably married, she refuses the advances of other younger people because the guy has either gotten her a car and a house. So to her, she’s operating on a very high level.”

Kanayo went on to highlight how this mindset can create a ripple effect, delaying marriage prospects and complicating efforts to find a partner as societal expectations shift with age.

“At 23, she’s a flex. At 28, she becomes a prayer point. After 33, she’s declared a state of emergency,” he remarked, suggesting that many women eventually turn to prayer as a solution.

His comments have sparked discussions on social media, with opinions divided on the societal and cultural pressures women face regarding marriage and the broader implications of his statements.
