Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has voiced support for popular singer Davido following backlash over his recent comments about Nigeria’s struggling economy.

His remarks sparked controversy, with many Nigerians criticising him and some even demanding a public apology.

In response, Kanayo took to Instagram to defend the singer, emphasising Davido’s right to freedom of speech and his intention to highlight the plight of ordinary Nigerians.

“@davido spoke his mind, isn’t it not? Respect his views too,” Kanayo said in the video.

He continued, “The Adelekes can feed for life, but it will be unholy if they assume all is OK because they are OK. Make una leave Davido alone over the comment he made. It is freedom of speech, and he made the statement in good faith.”

Kanayo stressed that Davido’s criticism reflects the concerns of Nigerians struggling to afford basic needs, adding, “Those who criticise us want the best out of us.

Davido speaks for other Nigerians who cannot feed. It is left for those in power to work harder to give us a better Nigeria.”

While Davido’s remarks have stirred debate, Kanayo’s defence underscores the importance of addressing Nigeria’s economic challenges and respecting differing opinions.
