The captivating and talented actress is not someone to shy away from controversies. The filmmaker continue to make the headlines on many occasions including her special days like birthday celebrations.
Alleged affair with Captain Matthew Ekeinde
The most recent issue about the actress making the rounds is allegations she had an affair with Captain Matthew Ekeinde, husband of ace movie star, Omotola Ekeinde-Jalade.
A TikTok blogger had alleged that the Enugu-born actress had an affair with the husband of her colleague. It was alleged that he gave her a car as a birthday gift.
Plastic Surgery
Days after celebrating her birthday, a fast-rising blogger identified as Chinny slammed the actress for going under the knife to surgical alter her facial construct. The blogger shared her evidence that showed the difference between Destiny Etiko’s old face and her new look.
She slammed the actress for allegedly going under the knife to alter her looks, noting that she was beautiful just the way she was previously. The content creator noted that she wasn’t out to bash the actress or tarnish her image. Instead, she noted that she was sad that the actress didn’t appreciate her old look, which was very beautiful.
Alleged affair with Tein Jack Rich
In September 2021, Destiny was involved in a mini scandal, after sharing photos of the new SUV she acquired; she also shared messages from her friends and fans congratulating her on the acquisition of the car.
This came months after she bought a Toyota Prado SUV.
Interestingly, as soon as she posted the photos, reports that she got the SUV from billionaire businessman, Tein Jack Rich started trending. A report both of them denied. Etiko even went on to place curses on the blogs who, she claimed, were paid to spread the false news.
Meeting Yahaya Bello
In February 2021, Destiny Etiko came under attack over the outfit she wore during her visit to ex-Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state.
Destiny Etiko on her Instagram page on Friday, shared a picture of her visit to the governor at the time with the caption; “HIS EXCELLENCY…YAHAYA ADOZA BELLO, God bless you more for the warm reception.”
The picture stirred reactions from Nigerians who dragged her for wearing ‘an indecent’ outfit on such a visit. Some attributed such visits to governors as reason for flamboyant lifestyle of some Nollywood actresses.
Education
Destiny Etiko‘s tertiary education background has also been a subject to conflicting reports.
In 2015, Destiny Etiko told Vanguard Newspaper that she studied Theater Arts at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Anambra State, where she graduated with a degree in 2012.
However, in another interview with Punch newspaper in 2019, she mentioned attending the Enugu State University of Science and Technology. Although her Wikipedia bio reflects the former.
Backlash from Kenyans
In June, Destiny Etiko faced backlash from Kenyans over a social media post they found ‘insensitive’ in light of their recent protests against proposed tax increases.
The actress had shared a screenshot highlighting Nigerians’ resilience in the face of their struggles.
The actress’ post read: “Nigerians are among the most patient people in the world. Looking at the situation in the country, we still wake up with smiles and continue pushing every day. Nigerians are VIPs.”
However, Kenyans who felt the actress aimed a jab at them regarding their tax hike protests criticised and lashed out at her in the post’s comment section.
Carol Ndago advised the 34-year-old actress to stick to BBL procedures, noting that Kenyans reject any call for patience.
Another Kenyan citizen, Harriet Sellasie, suggested that the actress continue to endure Nigeria’s hardships instead of advising Kenyans.
Luvv Vanneyy emphasised that Kenyans are educated and deserve fair employment with adequate pay rather than resorting to theft and fraud like Nigerians.
Like Sallasie, Vanneyy, and Ndago, other Kenyan citizens who commented criticised the Enugu-born actress, suggesting that she (Etiko) and Nigerians were unaware of their rights due to illiteracy.
Reacting to the backlash, Etiko, who has a huge Kenyan following, clarified that she did not intend to mock Kenyans, nor was she aware of the ongoing protest.
