Are you wondering who the top ranking Nollywood actress at the moment is? Then you may need to head out to the cinema on February 14 to see Dear Affy.
The movie is the latest from director Samuel Olatunji (Big Sam) and is favoured to be the next big thing in the box office in the New Year.
Right from the early scenes, a movie enthusiast would have noticed that Dear Affy doesn’t begin the way most love story movies begin. There is a twist to the normal male chasing a lady, then both fall in love and live happily ever after. The twists in the movie are enough to keep you glued to your seat and still enjoy every moment of it.
It is often said that when an experienced actor is in the hands of an adept director, his destiny is shines like a star.
Dear Affy features a great lead performance by Kehinde Bankole, with its narrative and theme being very relatable.
The beautiful and lovable gap-toothed Kehinde headlines Dear Affy as Affy, a single and modern woman, who has always been convinced about what she wants and meticulously plan towards achieving it. And this habit doesn’t exclude love and also love making! So somehow, and not without strategising, she hooks the man she believes would fit into her marriage time-table as a perfect man.
While I was at the cinema, expecting to see what may turn out to be the usual love story, the plot suddenly spiraled out of control and kept me wondering at what point did I look away from the big screen?!
Every time you predict a next scene, every time you fail until you give up trying and just let the script writer be your guide as the plots unfold till the end.
How can a very expensive society marriage, to be legalised within a week after a year of planning, suddenly hit the rubble without even taking off!
Everything is perfect for a romantic journey between the lovebirds, or so it seems until a Big Sam decides to mess with our heads and bully us.
The romantic comedy movie features Teni Entertainer, Timini Egbuson, Toyin Abraham, Jide Kosoko, Chinedu Ikedieze, MC Lively, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Uzor Arukwe and Bimbo Akintola.
Others are Bimbo Ademoye, Uzee Usman, Hafiz Oyetoro, Ali Nuhu, Anto Lecky, Sir Dee, Bianca Ugo and a host of other superstars.
Kehinde gave her all to this movie and this earns her sitting comfortably on the throne of the best thing so far to have happened to the industry in recent months. I dare you to put Dear Affy on your to watch list on February 14 and see why the crown fits.
Can she sustain the tempo? Well, time will tell.
Bigsam promised to dazzle the movie world and if you ask of my verdict, I will say he sure did.
