Veteran Nollywood actress Ngozi Ezeonu has dismissed viral social media rumors claiming she had passed away, confirming in a video on Instagram that she is “alive and healthy.”

Ezeonu clarified that a recent Instagram post showing a half-burnt candle was a tribute to a close friend who had died—not an indication of her own passing.

“I lost a very close friend of mine; I posted a candle, and they now put my picture on that candle, saying I died. It is wrong. I am alive and healthy, please,” she said.

Visibly frustrated, the actress urged the media to exercise caution before publishing unverified stories. “In journalism, when in doubt, you leave out. If you cannot get across to the person to confirm the story, you don’t post,” she stressed.

Ezeonu also lamented the distress caused by such false news, questioning why anyone would deliberately cause harm for online attention.

“This is a new year, why would anybody want to hurt each other just because they want people to follow them?” she asked.

The video post, also shared on Twitter, reinforced her message and effectively put an end to the unfounded speculation surrounding her health.
