Nigerian Police launch official investigations into Mohbad’s mysterious death

On Saturday, September 17, 2023, the Acting Inspector-General of Police (IG), Kayode Egbetokun, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, constituted a special team and officially initiated an inquiry into the tragic passing of Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, the celebrated Nigerian musician.

As part of this high-profile investigation, a specialised team of seasoned detectives from the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has been meticulously selected. Their primary mission is to shed light on the perplexing circumstances that led to the demise of this iconic figure in the Nigerian music industry.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, conveyed in a statement released just yesterday, “We encourage family members or close associates with valuable information to approach the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to assist in this process,” the statement further read, adding that individuals should “refrain from making statements or engaging in activities that could jeopardise the ongoing investigation.”

The statement also urged caution, warning individuals against making statements or engaging in activities that might jeopardise the ongoing investigation.

Today, on September 18, 2023, the public’s interest in this perplexing case surged to new heights as a video clip emerged on X, previously known as Twitter, posted by Pulse Nigeria. This video captured the poignant moment when Mohbad’s parents and other family members gathered alongside officers from the Nigerian police force to officially launch the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of the beloved Nigerian singer.
