Amusan Faces Strong Field at Athlos London

Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan will return to action on Friday as she takes on a strong field in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Athlos meet in London.

The Tobi Amusan Athlos appearance comes at StoneX Stadium, where the Nigerian will line up against Bahamian world indoor record holder Devynne Charlton and Jamaican former world champion Danielle Williams.

The 100m hurdles is scheduled to begin at 7:08pm BST, with the Athlos meeting featuring seven women’s events at the London venue. The competition officially begins at 7pm, according to the organisers.

Amusan enters the meeting after finishing second in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in Budapest last week. She clocked 12.34 seconds to take silver behind American Masai Russell, who won in 12.22 seconds.

Russell, the reigning Olympic champion and current world record holder, was initially expected to compete in London but withdrew earlier this week after winning the Diamond League and the $150,000 World Ultimate Championship.

The withdrawal removes one of Amusan’s most frequent rivals this season, but the Nigerian still faces a quality field that includes Charlton, Williams, Megan Simmonds and Alaysha Johnson.

Amusan, who previously held the world record in the event with her 12.12-second run in 2022, will be looking to end her London appearance strongly after a demanding season on the international circuit. Russell lowered that record to 12.09 seconds in Zurich earlier this season.

The Athlos meeting is an all-women professional track and field event created by Alexis Ohanian. The London edition is the first international staging of the series and features the 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, mile, long jump and 100m hurdles.

Athletes competing in each individual event can earn up to $65,000, while the overall champion receives an additional $25,000.
