The backlash followed an interview in which Baba Ijesha addressed allegations of sexual assault, insisting he was neither a pedophile nor a rapist.

In the interview, he criticised Princess for allegedly betraying friends and expressed disappointment in Iyabo Ojo, claiming he had cared for her children while she doubted him.

Many Nigerians reacted negatively to the interview, criticising both Baba Ijesha and Biola Bayo. In response, Biola removed the video from her YouTube page and restricted access to it on Instagram.

She later posted a video clarifying her position, apologising to Iyabo Ojo and the public, and stressing that she does not, and will never, condone sexual assault.

. Actress Bisola Badmus praised her “strength and kindness,” urging calm, while Lizzy Anjorin criticised Biola for exposing her family to public scrutiny and demanded the video be deleted promptly.

The controversy revisits a 2021 case in which Princess accused Baba Ijesha of molesting her 14-year-old ward. In 2022, Ijesha was sentenced to five years in prison for the assault.

On 15 November 2025, the actor was released after spending over three years in custody, a decision confirmed by the Appeal Court.

Actor Yomi Fabiyi welcomed the release, celebrating Ijesha’s return to the public sphere.
