Nollywood actress Biola Bayo explains why she announced her separation from husband Oluseyi on his birthday, stating she wanted to control her own narrative and prevent rumours

Biola Bayo marriage separation has continued to spark debate after the popular Nollywood actress publicly announced the end of her marriage to Oluseyi on his birthday last week.

The heartfelt revelation, which she shared on social media, drew mixed reactions—some supportive, others critical of the timing.

In a now-viral video posted days after the announcement, Biola Bayo responded to the backlash and clarified her reasons. She stated that she chose to speak out in order to control the narrative surrounding her four-year marriage, which had come to an end.

“Please, I’m a human too,” she said emotionally. “The other one I said about my marriage was because I don’t want people to say my story for me, that was why I came out to say it.

And that’s my style. So that people would not be saying something different or saying things that would make me sad. But I didn’t know that you people would still use it against me.”

Bayo also addressed the accusation that she chose her ex-husband’s birthday as a deliberate move to stir drama. According to her, Oluseyi was informed about the post before it went live.

“People were already asking why I wasn’t posting my husband. I knew different rumours would come out online that very day, that is why I spoke about our separation.

But yet, it was used against me,” she explained. “I had already told my husband before I posted. So he was aware that I would post it, so that other people won’t be the ones to tell the story on social media.”

Ending her remarks, the actress expressed hope for understanding and added, “I know that God will reward everybody accordingly.”

Biola Bayo’s candid disclosure highlights the growing challenge faced by public figures in managing personal life events in the age of social media scrutiny.
