Bolatito Sowunmi defends Papa Ajasco stars, urging empathy as actors open up about financial struggles and industry challenges

Nollywood actress Bolatito Sowunmi, widely known for her role as Miss Pepeye in the television series Papa Ajasco and Company, has defended her former co-stars amid growing concerns over their financial wellbeing.

Sowunmi’s comments followed revelations by Abiodun Ayoyinka, who plays the titular Papa Ajasco character, that he is facing financial difficulties and has appealed for public assistance.

Ayoyinka disclosed that his earnings have been limited, alleging that Wale Adenuga Productions restricts his ability to profit from the Papa Ajasco character outside the show.

In response, Wale Adenuga clarified that the actor could participate in advertising projects with approval, describing the claims as exaggerated.

Another veteran actor, Kayode Olaseinde, popularly known as Pa James, also acknowledged that earnings from the production are insufficient to meet living expenses.

In a detailed post shared on March 22, 2026, Sowunmi urged the public to show understanding rather than criticise actors who speak openly about their struggles.

She stressed that only those who have worked on the production fully understand the challenges involved, warning against dismissing genuine concerns as attention-seeking.

“Those criticising Papa Ajasco for being open should relax. We were there and understand the realities,” Sowunmi said, adding that many actors remain silent despite facing similar hardships.

Addressing comparisons between herself and the current Miss Pepeye, the actress clarified that her departure after ten years on the show was due to personal reasons, not conflict.

Sowunmi also expressed gratitude to Wale Adenuga Productions, describing it as a valuable platform that has supported many creative talents over the years.

Reflecting on the broader industry, she noted that the entertainment sector remains tough, particularly for actors striving to maintain integrity, despite the often misleading perception created on social media.

The Bolatito Sowunmi defends Papa Ajasco stars narrative underscores a deeper concern about welfare in the creative industry, as she called on the public to support veteran actors rather than judge them.

She further revealed that she now uses the nickname Ms Eagle, explaining that the Miss Pepeye identity is a registered trademark owned by Wale Adenuga Productions and only accessible to actors during their tenure.
