Eleko box office opening sees Jide Kosoko’s historical film gross N18.3m in Nigeria, marking a strong debut weekend performance

The Eleko box office opening marks a promising start for the film, which premiered in Nigerian cinemas on 20 March and has quickly attracted attention for its compelling retelling of colonial-era resistance in Lagos.

Kosoko announced the earnings via his Instagram page on Tuesday, expressing heartfelt gratitude to moviegoers for their support and describing the response as deeply encouraging for the production team.

In a message shared with fans, the actor and producer thanked Nigerians for showing up in large numbers, noting that every form of support contributed to the film’s early success.

The post carried a tone of appreciation and pride as he reaffirmed that the movie remains in cinemas nationwide.

Eleko (Oba Esugbayi) tells the powerful story of Oba Esugbayi Eleko, a Lagos monarch known for resisting British colonial authority in the early 20th century, a narrative that continues to resonate with audiences interested in Nigeria’s cultural and historical identity.

The film was produced under Jide Kosoko Film Presentation and directed by Adebayo Tijani, Babatunde Kosoko and Tunde Olaoye, with distribution handled by Genesis Pictures.

It features a star-studded ensemble cast including Femi Branch, Sola Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Saidi Balogun, Dele Odule, Yinka Quadri, Yemi Solade, Adebayo Salami, Jumoke Odetola and Broda Shaggi, adding significant star power to its cinematic appeal.
