Funke Akindele movie success story reveals the sacrifices behind her ₦2.7bn film, including giving up parties and personal routines for work

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has opened up about the intense personal sacrifices she made while working on her latest movie, Behind The Scenes, which has reportedly generated ₦2.7 billion at the box office.

Speaking in an interview with BellaNaija, Akindele revealed that achieving the milestone required complete dedication, saying she put aside her personal lifestyle and focused entirely on the project.

The filmmaker explained that during the production and promotion period, she stopped attending social events, reduced personal commitments and even neglected some aspects of her usual self-care routine to concentrate on the movie.

“What I do differently to achieve this level of success is lots of work. When I say a lot of work, it means giving your all,” Akindele said.

“I abandoned myself for work; I didn’t even make my hair, except when I am going on the red carpet or somewhere important. I don’t attend parties, I don’t go to greet people at home, I quit everything.”

Thesuccess story, according to the filmmaker, was built on discipline, long hours and a willingness to make difficult choices behind the scenes.

Akindele said she became deeply involved in the project, describing the process as one that demanded her time, energy and full commitment.

“I’m neck-deep in work; I sacrifice my time for it. It’s now that I am relaxed, feeling fresh, doing the skincare,” she added.

The actress also highlighted the physical demands of the journey, noting that there were moments of sleepless nights, missed meals and exhaustion as she worked to bring the project to life.

“It was a lot of sacrifice, sleepless nights, forgetting to eat, giving my all,” she said.

Akindele, known for her successful career as an actress, producer and director, has become one of Nollywood’s most influential figures, with several of her projects achieving major commercial success.
