Speaking during an interview with Morayo, the actress said she made a deliberate decision not to allow the history of her marriage affect her children’s relationship with their father.

The actress explained that she believes parents have a responsibility to prevent unhealthy family patterns from continuing across generations, adding that her own childhood experiences influenced her approach.

“I don’t know, there’s something called ancestral curses. And we Africans believe in it. Christians also. I believe that if you do not want something to continue, you have to be able to break it,” Iyabo said.

She explained that although her marriage ended, she did not believe her former husband’s relationship with their children should suffer because of issues between the two adults.

“Every mistake they had made that I have made, my children will not make it. Her father is not dead. He’s alive. So why can’t he be there? He didn’t wrong her. Me and him fell out. It has nothing to do with her,” she added.

Iyabo said her decision was rooted in ensuring that Priscilla had the support and presence of both parents during an important milestone in her life.

The actress and Ademidun Ojo got married in 1999, but their union ended in 2001.

Despite their separation, Iyabo has continued to emphasise the importance of maintaining a healthy parental relationship for the benefit of their children.
