Clarion Chukwurah pays emotional tribute to late veteran actor Kola Oyewo, recalling his influence on her early theatre and Nollywood career

Veteran Nollywood actress Clarion Chukwurah has paid an emotional tribute to late theatre icon Kola Oyewo, describing his influence as foundational to her early career in the Nigerian film and stage industry.

Chukwurah shared her reflection on Instagram on Sunday, June 14, 2026, noting that the late actor once served as her lecturer at the Department of Dramatic Arts, then at the University of Ife, where he taught Theatre Management.

She recalled working closely with him on several productions, including historical and traditional stage plays, describing him as a guiding force during her formative years in the profession.

“He was a quintessential actor across three generations,” she wrote, while expressing deep respect and bidding him farewell.

The Kola Oyewo tribute has continued to resonate across the Nollywood community, with colleagues also celebrating his legacy and contribution to Nigerian theatre and film.

Actor Muyiwa Ademola described the late veteran as one of the most remarkable personalities he had encountered in the industry, praising his professionalism and impact.

Kola Oyewo passed away at the age of 80, with his death confirmed by filmmaker Kunle Afod, who described him as a true legend whose influence would endure across generations.

Tributes have continued to pour in from industry figures, including Toyin Adegbola, who highlighted his roles as a lecturer, mentor, and performer, while celebrating his life and legacy.

Oyewo’s career spanned theatre, film, and academia, with many describing him as a bridge between classical Yoruba stage traditions and modern Nollywood storytelling.
