Moyo Lawal arrest claim dismissed as actress denies ordering troll’s detention and calls out false narratives online

Moyo Lawal, Nollywood actress, denied an arrest claim involving an online critic in Lagos, Nigeria, on April 14, 2026, stating she had no role in the alleged detention.

The clarification followed a viral allegation by a social media user who claimed he was arrested and held at Area F Police Command in Ikeja after a dispute with the actress over an AI-generated image.

The user alleged that he was invited by a Divisional Police Officer, detained for over a week, and only released after legal intervention.

Responding, Moyo Lawal firmly dismissed the claim. She stated she would not violate anyone’s fundamental rights over an opinion about a digitally altered image.

Moyo Lawal added that if she ever took legal action against anyone, it would be clear and justified.

She also criticised what she described as recurring false narratives surrounding her online presence.

The controversy stems from an earlier exchange in which the actress addressed critics accusing her of skin bleaching.

She had shared altered images of herself with a darker complexion, questioning whether critics would now be satisfied.

The development adds to recent public scrutiny faced by the actress. She had previously spoken about a leaked private video involving a former partner, describing it as a breach of trust and privacy.

In her earlier statement, Moyo Lawal disclosed that the individual in the footage was her ex-fiancé and warned of possible legal action over the unauthorised release.
