The intervention was announced by the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Tourism and Entertainment, Martins Justice, who said the Abia government had approved payment for the first phase of the actress’s medical expenses.

“His Excellency @alexottiofr has just stepped in on the health issues of our Nollywood legendary actress Mrs Ngozi Nwosu to approve the first part of her medical bills,” Justice wrote on X.

He, however, explained that the support covered only part of the treatment costs and appealed to members of the public to continue assisting the actress.

“While we sincerely appreciate His Excellency, we still appeal to kind-hearted Nigerians to please support her in any way possible you can,” he added.

The announcement has brought relief to fans and members of the entertainment industry who had expressed concern following Ngozi Nwosu’s public appeal for help with her medical condition.

The 62-year-old actress had earlier revealed that she had been hospitalised for three weeks and needed about ₦30 million to fund three life-saving surgeries.

In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page, Ngozi Nwosu appealed to fans, colleagues and well-wishers not to abandon her during the difficult period.

“My people, my fans and my family, I know that you’ve not seen me in circulation for some time. I’ve been hospitalised now for three weeks. Please, the thing has gone beyond my control,” she said.

Her health challenge has renewed conversations about welfare support for veteran entertainers, many of whom have faced medical and financial difficulties after years of contributing to Nigeria’s creative industry.
