Omotola rejects billionaire deals linked to politics, saying she chose her principles over wealth to protect the message she represents

Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed that she repeatedly rejected lucrative opportunities, including offers connected to politics, during a recent appearance on the Afropolitan Podcast, choosing to protect her principles rather than pursue wealth.

The actress said some of the opportunities could have made her a billionaire, but accepting them would have required compromises that she believed could eventually weaken the values and message she represents.

“If I wanted to be a billionaire, I would have been one easily,” Omotola said, explaining that she had found herself in situations where she could have accepted substantial financial rewards without the public knowing about the compromises involved.

The actress said politics featured among the areas where she encountered such opportunities.

“Even in politics. I am talking about many times where I could have compromised my stance and got paid handsomely for it. But I said, ‘No,’” she said.

Omotola stressed that the offers were not necessarily wrong or harmful on the surface. Her concern, she explained, was that accepting some of them could gradually erode the beliefs that have shaped her public identity.

“Sometimes, they are not necessarily bad things. They are just things that would just rock your foundation or belief systems,” she said.

She acknowledged that turning down such opportunities was not always easy, particularly when the financial rewards were significant. However, the actress said her long-term priorities ultimately guided her decisions.

“Sometimes, I am tempted to compromise because they don’t appear bad, but I would still walk away eventually. Because in the long run, it will dilute my message,” she added.

The disclosure comes as Omotola continues to speak openly about the values and challenges that have shaped her more than three decades in the entertainment industry.

In another recent interview, the actress discussed the financial difficulties facing large-scale Nollywood productions, arguing that inadequate funding and investment remain major obstacles to ambitious filmmaking in Nigeria.

She has also recently raised concerns about royalties in Nollywood, contrasting her experience in Nigeria with the residual payments she receives from her work in Hollywood.

Omotola’s latest comments therefore offer a more personal perspective on the choices behind her career, portraying financial success not simply as a question of opportunity but also of what an individual is willing to sacrifice to achieve it.
