Veteran Nollywood actor recalls first meeting and reveals late colleague had planned grand celebration for his 80th birthday

Actor Chief Pete Edochie has paid an emotional tribute to late actor Alex Ekubo, reflecting on their relationship and revealing that the deceased had planned a major celebration for his upcoming 80th birthday.

The Pete Edochie Alex Ekubo tribute was shared in a video posted on Edochie’s official Instagram page, where he spoke warmly about his encounters with the late actor and the impression he left on him.

According to Edochie, Alex Ekubo made a memorable first visit to him at a hotel, arriving with a cow and a group of Ogene drummers as part of an invitation to an event.

“Alexx Ekubo came, he saw, and he left an indelible impression. I met him three times. On the first occasion, he arrived at my hotel with a big cow and a group of Ogene drummers to invite me to an event,” Edochie said.

The veteran actor revealed that Ekubo had also been making arrangements for a significant celebration ahead of his 80th birthday next year, a plan that was never fulfilled.

“I was told he had big plans for my 80th birthday celebration next year, but unfortunately, he is gone,” he added.

Edochie also praised actor IK Ogbonna, describing him as a loyal friend who stood by Ekubo both in life and in death.

The emotional message has drawn widespread reactions from fans and colleagues across Nollywood, many of whom have continued to celebrate Ekubo’s legacy and contributions to the Nigerian film industry.
