Yomi Fabiyi urges a delay in the Temitope Osoba burial, calling for a full investigation into conflicting claims surrounding the actress’s death

Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi on Monday, August 10, 2026, called for the postponement of the burial of actress Temitope Osoba in Lagos, urging the police to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death before her remains are laid to rest.

Fabiyi made the appeal in a statement issued amid growing controversy over how Osoba died, with conflicting accounts emerging from people who were reportedly close to her in her final days.

The actor said rushing the burial could complicate efforts to establish what happened, particularly if investigators later require an autopsy or other forensic examination.

Fabiyi argued that the authorities should first determine whether there was any wrongdoing before the actress is buried.

“These allegations/rumours of rape, likely murder, extortion, etc, are quite disturbing. The burial should be on hold, please. This girl’s spirit cries for justice,” Fabiyi said.

He added, “Do not bury Tope Osoba now until a full investigation is done and established.”

The appeal comes after Osoba’s death triggered questions on social media and within the Nigerian entertainment community, particularly over reports about the circumstances surrounding her final hours.

Osoba, who had previously spoken publicly about her battle with breast cancer, died in August 2026.

In an interview following her death, her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, rejected reports that cancer or poisoning caused her death.

Onadeko instead alleged that he was informed around midnight that Osoba had died at a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

“In my own understanding, Temitope did not die from cancer. I received a call around midnight from someone who told me she had died at a police station in Ikorodu,” Onadeko said.

The account has not, however, established that Osoba died at the police station, and the circumstances remain subject to clarification by the relevant authorities.

Onadeko also denied allegations that Osoba was poisoned, neglected or subjected to degrading treatment before her death.

He said he did not know the particular police station involved but reported himself at a nearby station after receiving the information.

Another account concerning Osoba’s final movements came from Prophetess Kehinde, whom Onadeko identified as a woman Osoba had gone to visit shortly before her death.

According to the account, Osoba was travelling with a friend and a driver and later went to Kehinde’s residence after leaving police custody.

Kehinde reportedly said she was not at home when Osoba arrived, prompting Osoba and the others to leave.

The account also includes an alleged voice note from Osoba shortly before her death, in which she was said to have asked that her body be collected and given a befitting burial.

The conflicting accounts have added to calls for an official explanation of the events surrounding the actress’s death.

Fabiyi’s intervention has therefore shifted attention towards the need for a formal investigation before the funeral proceeds.

His concern is that burying Osoba before the relevant facts are established could make any subsequent forensic examination more difficult.

The controversy also comes against the background of Osoba’s earlier public account of her health struggles.

In 2025, she spoke about being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment, including surgery, while describing the role of her faith during her recovery.

Osoba also had an established career in Nollywood. Available film records list her among the cast of the 2019 drama Love and a Tragedy, alongside actors including Ayo Adesanya, Ruth Kadiri and Nkechi Blessing Sunday.

As questions surrounding her death continue to generate public attention, Fabiyi has called for patience and a thorough investigation, arguing that establishing the facts should take precedence over the immediate burial.

For now, claims about the cause and circumstances of Osoba’s death remain disputed, and any definitive conclusion will depend on the findings of an official investigation.
