Nigerian singer Chike recalls a surprising encounter with a former school bully, drawing mixed reactions over classism on social media.

Nigerian singer Chike recently shared a personal story about an encounter with a former school bully, igniting discussions on social media about classism and growth.

In a candid post on X (formerly Twitter), Chike revealed how the bully, who used to taunt him in secondary school, now called him “big bro” despite being older than the singer.

“Person weh de bully me lowkey for school just call me big bro. By the way, e senior me,” Chike wrote on Sunday, reflecting on the irony of the situation.

While the singer’s post seemed lighthearted to many, it quickly stirred controversy among some X users, with critics labelling his comment as “classist.”

They argued that the tone of the post came across as dismissive of people in lower social classes.

In response to the backlash, Chike dismissed the claims, stating, “Classism not the point. Rest.”

His clarification did little to quell the debate, but it did draw attention to the wider issue of bullying, which many Nigerians, including celebrities like Tiwa Savage, Tems, Kizz Daniel, and Taymesan, have spoken about in the past.

Bullying, whether in school or in other areas of life, continues to be a common thread in the stories of many prominent figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

For Chike, however, the post was an opportunity to reflect on personal growth and the changing dynamics between him and his past adversary.

As the discussion on classism continues, many fans are supportive of Chike, highlighting his rise from humble beginnings to becoming a celebrated music star.
