Nigeria’s first internet connection

Eldee The Don reveals his father pioneered Nigeria’s internet, establishing Lagos’ first cyber cafe and connecting top agencies.

Nigerian veteran singer and producer Eldee The Don has disclosed a remarkable legacy about his father, describing him as the first person to connect Nigeria to the internet.

Speaking on the popular Adesope Live show, Eldee shared that his father’s early ventures into technology laid a significant foundation for modern internet services in the country.

Eldee revealed that his father not only set up the first cyber cafe in Lagos but also provided internet services to major organisations, including oil firms like Mobil and key government institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

“Thankfully, I had a dad who was in technology. My dad was a pioneer in his own space as well,” Eldee said during the interview.

“That man was the first person to connect Nigeria to the internet. This is something people argue about because they don’t know his name. He wasn’t that guy who wanted to put himself out there.”

The singer detailed how this early exposure to technology shaped his career in the music industry. Growing up in a tech-forward household, Eldee had access to cutting-edge equipment that enabled him to set up a home studio.

This gave him a unique advantage in creating music and establishing himself as a leading figure in the Nigerian entertainment scene.
