Ghanaian actor John Dumelo wins Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary election, defeating Lydia Alhassan with a decisive 40,561 votes.

 

 

Ghanaian actor-turned-politician John Dumelo has secured a landmark victory in the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary election.

Contesting under the banner of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dumelo defeated the incumbent, Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in a closely watched race during Ghana’s general elections on Saturday, 7 December 2024.

The Electoral Commission declared Dumelo the winner after he garnered an impressive 40,561 votes, significantly surpassing Alhassan’s 27,377 votes.

This victory marks a significant turnaround for Dumelo, who had previously vied for the same seat in the 2020 elections but narrowly lost to Alhassan.

Dumelo’s political journey has drawn attention not only because of his celebrity status but also due to his commitment to grassroots mobilisation and development in the constituency.
