Faithia Williams mourns Ogogo, recalling Taiwo Hassan’s kindness and support when she returned from London to restart her career in Nigeria

Nollywood actress and producer Faithia Williams paid an emotional tribute to late veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, during his eight-day Fidau prayer in Lagos on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, recalling the kindness, mentorship and sense of belonging he gave her when she returned from London.

Williams described Hassan as more than a colleague, saying the veteran actor played an important role in helping her settle back into Nigeria and reconnect with the Odunfa theatre group.

She recalled how warmly Hassan received her when she joined the group, an experience she said made her transition back into the Nigerian entertainment industry easier.

“Ogogo wasn’t just a boss to me; he was someone who contributed greatly to my person when I came back from London to join Nigerians at Odunfa,” Williams said.

“He was there for me, and I was greatly and warmly welcomed. He was honest, peaceful and irreplaceable.”

Williams’ tribute offered a personal glimpse into the professional relationship she shared with Hassan, whose influence extended beyond his work on screen to the colleagues and younger practitioners he supported throughout his career.

Hassan died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following a battle with stage-four cancer.

His death has prompted tributes across Nigeria’s film industry, with colleagues remembering him not only for his acting career but also for the relationships he built within the Yoruba theatre and film community.

For Williams, Hassan’s legacy is closely tied to the warmth and acceptance she experienced during an important transition in her own life.
