Nancy Isime made the remarks in an Instagram post following the memorial event held on June 10 at the Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, where members of the Nigerian entertainment industry gathered to honour Alex Ekubo’s life and legacy.

Describing the occasion as the “hardest hosting gig” of her life, Nancy Isime reflected on the pain of losing a close friend and colleague. The actress said Alex Ekubo’s death was not what anyone had anticipated and admitted she struggled to accept the reality of the loss.

“This wasn’t the plan,” Nancy Isime wrote, adding that biblical passages from 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 and Matthew 5:4 had provided comfort during the grieving period.

The actress also expressed how deeply she misses the late actor, saying she could not bring herself to place his name alongside references to rest in peace. The emotional message highlighted the profound personal impact Alex Ekubo’s death has had on those closest to him.

The Service of Songs attracted numerous celebrities from the Nollywood community, many of whom attended to pay their respects. The gathering served as both a celebration of Alex Ekubo’s life and a powerful moment of collective remembrance.

A secondary moment from the event sparked discussion online after Nancy Isime’s choice of attire drew criticism on social media. Adhering to the event’s white dress code, the actress wore a white gown accompanied by a fascinator that partially covered her eyes, prompting mixed reactions from observers.

The Nancy Isime Tribute follows earlier messages shared by the actress after news of Alex Ekubo’s death emerged. At the time, she spoke about the devastating impact of cancer, noting that many people continue to battle the disease with remarkable courage while others have tragically lost their lives.
