Scarlet Gomez on Wura Role

Scarlet Gomez reveals how therapy and support helped her manage the emotional challenges of playing Wura Adeleke in her hit series

Nigerian actress Scarlet Gomez has revealed how therapy and a strong personal support system helped her navigate the psychological demands of portraying Wura Adeleke, the villainous lead character in the television series Wura.

Gomez explained during a virtual press briefing that balancing professional and personal support was critical in separating herself from the morally complex character.

“How I strike a balance…therapy and family. I’m grateful that I have the right support system around me to kind of help me stay grounded,” she said.

Wura Adeleke, a powerful figure in the mining industry, is depicted as ambitious and ruthless, often putting personal gain above family.

While the role has elevated Gomez’s profile, she stressed the importance of avoiding typecasting in similar roles. “It put me out there, and I am grateful for it. Even when they try to bring characters similar to Wura, I deliberately try to turn them down because I do not want to replicate what Wura,” she noted.

Looking ahead to the fourth season, set to premiere on March 30 with 130 episodes airing nightly on Africa Magic channels, Gomez said viewers will witness a more emotionally vulnerable side of the character.

“They get to see her in a way they have never seen before. She becomes more emotional, more vulnerable…she can also go through things that normal people go through,” Gomez said.
