Timaya urges the Bayelsa government to address the destruction of farmlands by herders, calling for an end to open grazing and ranching of cattle

Afrobeats singer Timaya has raised a serious concern over the destruction of plants and farmlands in his home state of Bayelsa by herders. The singer took to his X handle on Tuesday, calling on the government to take urgent action and put an end to the destruction, which he described as “beyond sad.”

Timaya, known for his hit songs like “Dem Mama,” expressed his frustration over the situation, urging that immediate steps be taken to protect local farmers and their livelihoods.

In his post, he wrote, “Pls the government should do something. They are destroying farms in Bayelsa. Aboki, take your in cow inside and feed them. This is so sad.”

The singer also took the opportunity to speak out against open grazing, a practice that has caused significant tensions across various states. Timaya called on the herders, often referred to as “Aboki,” to adopt more sustainable practices such as ranching rather than allowing their cattle to roam freely and destroy crops.

Timaya’s call reflects growing concerns about the impact of open grazing on agriculture in various parts of Nigeria, urging for long-term solutions to preserve farmlands and promote more controlled cattle farming practices.

His plea for the government’s intervention highlights the urgency of addressing this ongoing issue in Bayelsa.
