Tonto Dikeh advises men to show more effort during courtship, warning against using spiritual claims as a substitute for genuine relationship work

Nollywood actress and evangelist, Tonto Dikeh, has called on men to adopt a more intentional and responsible approach during courtship, urging them not to rely on spiritual declarations as a substitute for genuine effort when pursuing marriage.

Tonto Dikeh made the remarks in a video shared online on Wednesday, July 2, 2026, where she reflected on what she described as a growing trend among Christian singles, particularly men who downplay emotional and practical investment in relationships.

According to her, some men approach courtship with what she termed “low effort”, often masking a lack of intentionality with religious language rather than demonstrating consistent actions that reflect commitment.

“This is a very funny topic, but it is one that we actually need to discuss. So, if you are a brother in the Lord, come forward; this is for you,” Tonto Dikeh said.

She questioned the idea of men claiming divine instruction without corresponding effort, adding that such behaviour distorts the essence of faith and responsibility in relationships.

“Why do church brothers think church sisters don’t require gifts? What about this low-effort thing you put into wooing or pursuing a woman? Church brothers would say, ‘God sent me to you,’ and blah, blah,” she said.

Tonto Dikeh further stressed that while spiritual conviction can play a role in relationships, it should not replace intentional actions, emotional maturity, and practical demonstration of interest.

She added that genuine courtship requires balance, where faith is supported by consistent behaviour that shows respect, care, and readiness for commitment.

The actress, who has increasingly spoken on faith and personal growth in recent years, noted that young people in relationships should avoid using spirituality as an excuse for emotional laziness.
