The actor recalled that he initially dismissed the report as another rumour before receiving a second phone call confirming the tragic development.

“Tuesdays might never be the same again,” Nwachukwu wrote, adding that he raced to the hospital after learning the news was true.

The powerful tribute offered a glimpse into the deep friendship shared by both actors, with Nwachukwu revealing that the pain now comes “in waves” and that he still cannot bring himself to say goodbye.

The post has stirred reactions across social media, with fans and colleagues expressing sympathy and remembering Ekubo’s impact on the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Alex Ekubo reportedly died on May 11, 2026, following complications linked to advanced metastatic kidney cancer. His family confirmed that he passed away at Evercare Hospital after what they described as a courageous battle with the illness.

The death of the light-skinned actor shocked many fans, particularly after his prolonged absence from social media since 2024 had sparked widespread concern among followers.

Last year, actress Oma Nnadi publicly addressed enquiries about Ekubo’s wellbeing, insisting at the time that the actor was healthy and simply staying away from social media.

Beyond his acting career, Ekubo was widely known for his thoughtful commentary on social issues and celebrity culture.

During the aftermath of singer Mohbad’s death in 2023, he shared reflections on human relationships and the tendency to celebrate people only after their passing.
