Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe revealed, that his family initially resisted his decision to pursue an acting career, with his father refusing to accept the profession as a stable livelihood.

Uzor Arukwe said his father remained unconvinced despite hearing about his growing success in the entertainment industry.

The actor explained that his father struggled to regard acting as a legitimate career, choosing instead to dismiss reports of his achievements.

“My father doesn’t know that I’m an actor, he has heard, but he doesn’t want to believe,” Uzor Arukwe said, highlighting the emotional strain caused by the lack of recognition at home.

The actor also spoke about his mother’s initial hesitation, noting that her position was influenced by her husband’s views.

According to Uzor Arukwe, she was slow to embrace his career choice but later became supportive as his progress became more visible.

“My mum was slow to adapt because of her husband but she later came around,” he added.

The account reflects a broader challenge faced by many creatives navigating careers that differ from traditional expectations.

Industry observers note that careers in film and entertainment are often viewed with uncertainty in conservative settings, despite the sector’s growing influence and economic value.
