Nollywood’s Frederick Leonard criticises rising social media toxicity after witnessing an online insult, leading him to block a follower

 

Nollywood actor and producer Frederick Leonard has ignited online discussions following his recent critique of the escalating toxicity prevalent across social media platforms.

Taking to his Instagram page, the award-winning thespian recounted a personal experience that solidified his belief that reasoned debate is becoming an increasingly scarce commodity in the digital realm.

Leonard described how he encountered a post where an individual shared their personal viewpoint on a current affair. Intrigued, he navigated to the comment section, only to be swiftly disillusioned by the nature of the responses he found.

According to the actor, one particular comment stood out for its negativity. A female user, expressing disagreement with the original poster’s opinion, initiated her response with a direct insult, referring to the person in question as “an aging fool.”

“Her submission started with an insult before she even bothered to make her point,” Leonard observed with evident disapproval.

He further disclosed that upon examining the profile of the commenter, he discovered she was among his own followers.

Displeased by her confrontational and disrespectful approach to online engagement, he promptly took action by blocking her account.

The actor did not mince his words in his concluding remarks on the matter:

“I have come to the conclusion that those who actually have sense are not in the comment section. People who have sense are not on social media,” he declared, suggesting a correlation between sensible discourse and limited online engagement.
