Yul Edochie proposal advice sparks debate as the actor urges African men to avoid kneeling while proposing marriage

Posting on his Facebook page, Yul Edochie described kneeling during proposals as a “foolish Oyibo culture” and encouraged men to stand confidently while expressing their intentions.

“Dear African man, never kneel to propose marriage to a woman. That’s a very foolish Oyibo culture. Stand proudly like a true African man who knows his worth and propose to her. Women adore men who know their value,” Yul Edochie wrote.

The statement quickly drew mixed reactions online, with some supporting the actor’s emphasis on cultural identity, while others criticised the tone and generalisation.

Yul Edochie proposal advice adds to a series of bold social commentaries the actor has made in recent months, often centred on relationships, confidence and personal values.

In earlier remarks, Yul Edochie urged men to emulate the biblical King Solomon by becoming outstanding individuals, arguing that personal excellence naturally attracts admiration.

The actor had also advised young men not to delay expressing interest in women due to financial constraints, stressing that confidence, rather than wealth, remains a decisive factor in relationships.

Beyond romance, Yul Edochie has weighed in on broader social issues. Following a viral domestic incident, Yul Edochie strongly warned against violence in troubled marriages, urging individuals to walk away rather than cause harm.

The actor has consistently described marriage as beautiful, even amid rising divorce rates, cautioning singles not to be discouraged by negative narratives shared online.
