Omowunmi Dada opens up on a past relationship that ended over religious differences, saying she wants a practising Christian husband

Nollywood actress Omowunmi Dada has opened up about a past relationship that ended after she discovered that her partner had begun practising Islam, explaining on September 25, 2026, that shared faith was important to the kind of family she hopes to build.

Dada made the disclosure during an interview with media personality VJ Adams, where she reflected on the relationship and explained why the difference in their religious beliefs eventually became a decisive issue.

According to the actress, she initially met the man while he identified as a Christian. However, the situation changed when Ramadan began and he told her that he was fasting.

Dada said she asked him about the change and was told that observing the fast would make his mother happy.

The revelation made her reconsider the future of the relationship because Dada said she wanted to marry a practising Christian and raise her children according to the Christian faith.

She stressed that her decision was not based on hostility towards Muslims, noting that she has Muslim friends whom she respects.

“I have nothing against Muslims; I have Muslim friends who are amazing people, by the way. But for the kind of family that I want to raise, I would love to raise my children the Christian way,” she said.

Dada explained that her former partner attempted to reassure her that the relationship could continue, including by offering to attend church with her.

For the actress, however, attending church together did not resolve the deeper disagreement over how their future children would be raised.

She said her former partner also wanted the children to visit the mosque and learn about Islam, creating a fundamental difference in their expectations about family life.

Dada ultimately chose to end the relationship rather than continue with expectations that she felt could create conflict within a future marriage.

“I want to be able to hold hands with my husband in one faith, in unity as a family,” she said.

The actress’s comments highlight the role that religious compatibility can play in relationships, particularly where couples have different expectations about marriage, worship and the upbringing of children.

For Dada, the experience appears to have reinforced the importance of discussing such values before making long-term commitments.

Her disclosure also offers a personal perspective on the challenges that can arise when partners who initially share an understanding of their faith later discover significant differences in religious practice and family expectations.

Dada has remained active in Nollywood, building a career across film and television and earning recognition for performances in both English and Yoruba-language productions.
