“A Tribe Called Judah” breaks record becomes the highest earning Nigerian film

Nollywood film dubbed “A Tribe Called Judah” has broken the record having become the first Nigerian Movie to earn 1bn naira ($1.1m; £900,000) in domestic theatres.

The film – which portrays a scheme to rob a mall by a single mother and her five sons battling financial hardship achieved the historic move in just three weeks.

Its creator – Nigerian actor, director and producer Funke Akindele – has applauded her fans for the milestone.

Through the post shared on Instagram the film’s distributor, “FilmOne Entertainment”, also expressed joy over the achievement saying that it boosts the Nigerian film industry.

“This achievement isn’t just about numbers; it’s a testament to the power of storytelling, cultural pride, and the unyielding spirit of Nollywood,” , FilmOne Entertainment.

The film that was released in December 2023 features outstanding actors and actresses including Jide Kene Achufusi, Uzor Arukwe, Funke Akindele, Yvonne Jegede and Juliana Olayode among others.

A Tribe Called Judah is set to eclipse Hollywood hits in Nigerian theatre earnings, including the acclaimed superhero film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which previously held the record as the top-grossing film in the country.
