The global ascendancy of Afrobeats continues to yield significant financial rewards, with Nigerian artists earning a staggering ₦58 billion in royalties from Spotify in 2024, according to the platform’s latest report.

This figure represents a doubling of the 2023 earnings, highlighting the genre’s explosive growth and global appeal. This substantial payout underscores a new era for Afrobeats, as its artists increasingly dominate international charts and playlists.
Spotify’s data reveals that over 250 million playlists worldwide now feature Nigerian Afrobeats artists, demonstrating the genre’s widespread popularity.
Icons such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, Asake, and Tems are headlining major international festivals, solidifying Afrobeats’ status as one of Africa’s most streamed sounds. This Afrobeats Spotify royalties increase shows the global impact of the genre.
Beyond the established stars, this financial boom is also creating opportunities for emerging talents. In 2024, a record number of up-and-coming Nigerian artists surpassed the ₦10 million annual earnings threshold through Spotify alone. This trend signifies that Afrobeats is not merely a musical genre but a burgeoning economic force.
“Naija to the World” has evolved into “Naija running the world,” as Afrobeats tracks consistently feature on Billboard, Apple Music Global, and Spotify Global Top 100 charts. The genre’s influence extends far beyond African borders, permeating global music culture.
The substantial royalties earned by Nigerian artists highlight the financial viability of Afrobeats and its potential to drive further growth within the Nigerian music industry. This financial success also provides a platform for more artists to create and distribute music.
Kesiena Tony Adjekpovu, popularly known as Kess, has said that participating in Big Brother Naija can make life harder, offering a candid reflection on the challenges that may come with the reality television experience.
The former Big Brother Naija housemate made the comment in a statement shared on social media, where he suggested that winning or simply taking part in the reality show does not necessarily make life easier after leaving the house.
“Big Brother makes your life harder,” Kess said.
