Bolaji Ogunmola backlash grows after she defends IK Ogboona over viral improvised scene, sparking debate and prompting her to deactivate account

Nigerian actress and film producer Bolaji Ogunmola is facing intense Bolaji Ogunmola backlash after defending actor IK Ogboona over a controversial tribal-laced dialogue in a viral movie scene that has sparked widespread criticism online.

The scene, which quickly circulated across social media platforms, showed IK Ogboona making offensive remarks directed at Yoruba women, language many viewers described as derogatory and unacceptable in modern Nigerian filmmaking.

The comments triggered immediate outrage, with social media users accusing the production team of promoting tribal stereotypes and questioning Ogunmola’s role as the film’s producer.

In her defence, Bolaji Ogunmola stated that the controversial lines were not part of the original script and were instead improvised by the actor during filming.

She further explained that, as a producer, she did not have unilateral authority to remove or alter the scene without the director’s approval, stressing that film production operates under structured creative control.

According to her, decisions of that nature must follow established industry procedures, adding that the project remained the director’s vision rather than a producer-led final cut.

However, the explanation did little to calm public reaction, as critics continued to express disappointment and called for greater accountability in storytelling and production oversight.

The Bolaji Ogunmola backlash intensified after further comments in which she maintained that she could not independently cut the scene, insisting that professional standards governed such decisions in filmmaking.

Following the growing criticism, Ogunmola reportedly deactivated her social media account, a move that further fuelled online debate over the controversy.
