AMVCA 2026 nominations earn praise as DGN congratulates Tunde Kelani, Daniel Etim-Effiong and others for Best Director recognition

The Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN) has congratulated several filmmakers, including Tunde Kelani and Daniel Etim-Effiong, following their nominations for Best Director at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, marking a notable highlight in the AMVCA 2026 nominations cycle.

In a statement shared via its official Instagram page on Thursday, the guild commended its members for their creative contributions to Nollywood and their continued impact on storytelling across the industry.

DGN described the nominations as a reflection of excellence, dedication and artistic vision, noting that the recognition underscores the growing global appeal and professional standard of Nigerian filmmaking.

Among those celebrated were Asurf Oluseyi Amuwa, Tunde Kelani, Daniel Etim-Effiong and Yemi Morafa, all of whom have been acknowledged for their work in directing and shaping contemporary Nigerian cinema.

The guild, in its message, emphasised pride in its members’ achievements and expressed confidence in their continued success at the upcoming awards ceremony.

It also highlighted the importance of such recognitions in inspiring emerging filmmakers within the industry.

Kelani, widely regarded as one of Nollywood’s most experienced and respected directors, has long been associated with culturally rich storytelling.

Etim-Effiong, who initially built a career as an actor, has increasingly established himself in directing and production in recent years.
