Afrobeats star Davido questions Nigerian democracy while praising the U.S. electoral system, citing his faith in true democratic principles.

Afrobeats sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has expressed concerns over the state of democracy in Nigeria, contrasting it with the robust democratic principles of the United States.

Speaking on a recent episode of The Morning Hustle podcast, Davido revealed his admiration for the U.S. electoral system, highlighting his confidence in its integrity.

The singer shared that he congratulated Donald Trump after his electoral victory, despite voting for his opponent, Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party.

“I congratulated Donald Trump. That’s the president! What are you talking about? If I were running against him, I would still have congratulated him,” he stated.

He added, “What I like about America is that there’s true democracy. Where I come from [Nigeria], it’s not so. To be honest, I voted for Kamala Harris because I wanted to see the first female president in my generation. That would have been cool.”

Davido’s remarks have sparked conversations about the credibility of Nigeria’s democratic processes. Known for his outspoken nature, the singer’s comments underscore growing concerns among many Nigerians about the need for reforms in governance and electoral systems.
