Wale Ojo stars in ‘This Is Not a Nollywood Movie’, a comedy film blending Nigerian culture and laughter, premiered at iMax Cinemas, Lekki

Actor Wale Ojo delivered a remarkable performance in his latest film, ‘This Is Not a Nollywood Movie’, produced by Boma Akpore.

The movie premiered recently at iMax Cinemas, Lekki, attracting movie enthusiasts and fans dressed in show-stopping outfits.

Shot across Nnewi and Lagos, the comedy features Samuel Animashaun Perry, also known as Brother Shaggi, Bimbo Akintola, Chidi Mokeme, Hanks Anuku, and several emerging actors.

Ojo, recognised for roles in films such as ‘Breath of Life’ and ‘The Man Died’, demonstrated a fresh comedic edge, showcasing his versatility and deep understanding of Nigerian culture and pidgin English.

The film follows a struggling actor who, alongside his close friend, leaves his Nnewi village to pursue a dream of international acclaim in Lagos.

Fast-paced and unpredictable, the story combines laughter with a celebration of faith, perseverance, and cultural identity.

Speaking before the premiere, Ojo said, “Today’s event is going to be a landmark in the scale of Nigerian movies. ‘This Is Not a Nollywood Movie’ is full of laughter and action. I want people to come into the theatre and have a good time.”

He added that the film pushes creative boundaries, stating, “There is going to be a lot of the unexpected in the film; a lot of things that you’ve never seen in any other Nigerian film.”

Ojo described the project as both challenging and rewarding.

“There were a few challenges, but we got over them because we were trying to do a lot of stuff that had not been done before,” he said.

“Overall, it was fun producing the film. I believe I gathered together a very good cast, so I’m just excited.”

The actor also highlighted the film’s deeper message, emphasising cultural leadership. “We as artists are the cultural leaders; we are the conscious warriors of a nation, and we have to build the spirit of our nation. This movie does that in a great way,” he said.

Ojo declined to reveal the film’s budget but confirmed it was “very expensive,” including promotional costs.
