Kenny Ogungbe Plantashun Boiz breakup

Kenny Ogungbe clears the air on the rumours that he caused the breakup of Plantashun Boiz, explaining that the group had already split before 2Face joined Kennis Music.

Ace Nigerian music executive and CEO of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe, has addressed long-standing rumours suggesting that he was responsible for the breakup of iconic Nigerian music group Plantashun Boiz.

The group, which included 2Face, Blackface, and Faze, had a significant impact on the Nigerian music scene before their split in 2004.

The rumours have circulated for years, particularly after Kennis Music signed 2Face, with many speculating that his departure from the group was influenced by Ogungbe.

However, in a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, Ogungbe set the record straight, denying any involvement in the dissolution of the group.

“People have been saying I’m the one responsible for the breakup of Plantashun Boiz. That’s not true,” Ogungbe said. “2Face came to me himself after the group had already broken up, wanting to sign with Kennis Music. Eedris Abdulkareem even told me to sign him, which I did.”

Plantashun Boiz, known for their hit album Sold Out, had already disbanded by the time 2Face approached Ogungbe for a record deal. The trio reunited briefly in 2007 for their third and final album, Plan B, before parting ways once again.

Ogungbe’s comments provide clarity on the timeline of events, dispelling any misconceptions about his role in the group’s breakup and highlighting the professional relationship he had with 2Face during his solo career launch.

As one of the leading figures in the Nigerian music industry, Ogungbe’s legacy at Kennis Music continues to influence the careers of many successful artists, including 2Face, who has since become one of Africa’s most celebrated musicians.
