Mohbad honoured at 17th Headies Awards

Late singer Mohbad was posthumously honoured with two awards at the 17th Headies, including Best Street-Hop Artiste and Viewers’ Choice

The late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, was posthumously celebrated at the 17th edition of the Headies Awards held on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos.

Mohbad was honoured with the Best Street-Hop Artiste award for his hit single “Ask About Me”. His family—including his wife and young son, Liam—graciously accepted the award on his behalf, drawing a heartfelt standing ovation from the audience.

His brother, Adura, accompanied Liam during the emotional moment.

Further cementing his legacy, Mohbad’s collaboration with Chike on the track Egwu also won the Headies Viewers’ Choice Award. He received additional posthumous nominations, including Best Collaboration and Afrobeats Single of the Year for “Egwu”.

The awards and nominations highlight the lasting influence of Mohbad’s music, even after his passing.

Nollytrailers reported that the ceremony included a special tribute, reflecting on Mohbad’s deep contributions to Nigerian music and the significant void his death has left behind.
