Williams Uchemba public execution call urges Nigeria to enforce visible death penalties for kidnappers as deterrence against the country’s rising abductions

Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has urged the Nigerian government to adopt public executions for convicted kidnappers, arguing that visible and decisive punishment is the only way to deter the alarming surge in abductions across the country.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, Uchemba criticised the government’s failure to enforce capital punishment despite existing laws that prescribe the death penalty for kidnapping offences.

“The capital punishment for kidnapping is death, yet when offenders are arrested we hardly hear what happens afterwards,” he lamented.

Uchemba suggested that public enforcement of justice could serve as a strong deterrent to potential criminals.

“If you ask me, there should even be a dedicated TV channel showing the arrest and public execution of convicted kidnappers. Until real consequences are enforced, nothing will change,” he said.

Citing China as an example, the actor noted that the Asian country’s firm stance on serious crimes such as kidnapping and corruption has contributed to its low crime rate.

His remarks come amid an escalating wave of kidnappings across Nigeria, especially as the festive season approaches — a period often linked to a spike in criminal activity.

Uchemba urged authorities to act decisively and restore public confidence in the justice system, insisting that swift and public punishment would serve as both deterrence and reassurance for law-abiding citizens.
