Popular Nollywood actor Lateef Adedimeji has added a new feather to his cap by receiving an honorary doctorate degree in the field of Art and Culture from a prestigious university in Benin Republic.

The accomplished actor took to his Instagram on November 28, 2023, to share the emotional announcement and express his gratitude for the recognition.

Adedimeji, known for his remarkable contributions to the entertainment industry, was visibly moved during the ceremony, where he was draped in the ceremonial robe. In an Instagram post capturing the inspiring moment, he shared, “I was moved to tears as I got adorned in this beautiful robe. I have never been interested in fame, I just wanted to be happy with my craft and the lives that I inspire.”

In a heartfelt caption accompanying the post, the actor revealed the depth of his emotions, saying, “Ladies and gentlemen, today, I have a new title, one I couldn’t have imagined would come without me facing invigilators and keeping late nights to study.” Adedimeji acknowledged the significance of the honor, stating, “The irony is really interesting. I burn midnight candles to master my lines and perfect my expressions, now I’m getting rewarded with what could have been if I did it for classroom reasons.”

Expressing humility, he reintroduced himself as “DR. ABDULLATEEF ADEDIMEJI ADETOLA, Doctor of Philosophy in Art and Culture from Estam University, Benin.” The actor attributed this achievement to his dedication and hard work in his chosen field, emphasizing that his focus has always been on the art itself rather than the pursuit of fame.

Adedimeji’s accomplishment aligns with a recent trend among Nigerian celebrities receiving honorary doctorate degrees. In the same month, both Mr. Macaroni and reality star Frodd were celebrated for attaining similar honors, showcasing the industry’s recognition of outstanding individuals.

With this newfound title, Lateef Adedimeji joins the distinguished league of Nigerian celebrities who have received acknowledgment for their remarkable contributions to their respective fields. His journey from mastering lines to receiving an honorary doctorate degree stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication to the art and culture that he so passionately embraces.
