Director Pink acting career: the music video director says she quit acting due to humiliation and sexual exploitation in Nollywood auditions

Director Pink acting career Nigerian music video director Praise Onyeagwalam, popularly known as Director Pink, has opened up on why she abandoned her dream of becoming an actress, revealing that humiliation and sexual exploitation pushed her away from Nollywood auditions.

In a candid interview with Hip TV, the award-winning cinematographer recounted how the early stages of her acting pursuit were filled with disheartening experiences.

“I wanted to be an actress but the humiliation was too much. Long queues, shady ‘come to this location’ calls. I said ‘No.’ That’s when I chose to be my own boss,” she explained.

Director Pink disclosed that the indignity of queuing endlessly at movie auditions and the inappropriate advances from some male filmmakers discouraged her from continuing on that path. Instead, she decided to build her own legacy behind the camera.

Now one of the most sought-after music video directors in Nigeria’s creative industry, Director Pink acknowledged that her chosen field comes with its own challenges but emphasised that she is willing to make the necessary sacrifices for growth.

She urged young creatives aspiring to enter the music video production space to be patient and committed, stressing that success in the industry requires perseverance and a long-term vision.

“Those who are at the top today didn’t get there overnight. It took years of hard work and discipline. Be patient and stay focused,” she advised.
