The award-winning Nollywood actor, who was rescued from homelessness in 2021, is now battling the disease while under the continued care of the church.

Apostle Chinyere shared the update on Monday, exactly four years after he took in the veteran actor, who had been sleeping at a public market in Enugu.

“For these 4 years, I have been accommodating him, clothing him, feeding him, and placing him on a monthly allowance through tithes and offerings from the OPM church,” the cleric wrote.

The pastor disclosed that Aguba has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer and is currently undergoing weekly consultations at a hospital. While acknowledging the seriousness of the condition, Chinyere expressed hope and faith in both divine intervention and medical science.

“We strongly believe in divine healing,” he said. “But we also believe that God gives knowledge to doctors to heal men.”

He further revealed that Omega Power Ministries has constructed two free specialist hospitals in Nigeria where surgeries and treatments are conducted without cost. These facilities operate independently of religious affiliation and offer help to Christians, Muslims, and people of other beliefs.

“At the entrance of every facility is inscribed: ‘We care, but God heals,’” Apostle Chinyere noted.

Kenneth Aguba’s story first captured public sympathy when photos of him living on the streets went viral in 2021. The situation sparked a national conversation about how veteran actors are treated after years of contributing to the entertainment industry. In response, Apostle Chinyere intervened and relocated Aguba to an OPM-supported residence.

He appointed a regional pastor in Enugu to ensure that Aguba was cared for, including cooking his meals and handling daily welfare. “Till today, 30 June 2025, that arrangement has not changed,” Chinyere affirmed.

The latest news has reignited sympathy and concern for the actor, especially as he reportedly has no immediate family to support him. “So far, no brother, no sister, no wife. OPM has borne this burden alone, from tithe and offering,” the pastor wrote.

Reactions to the update have flooded social media, with many Nigerians expressing gratitude to Apostle Chinyere for his dedication and compassion. Others have called on the Actors Guild of Nigeria and industry stakeholders to step in with support for the ailing star.

The case has also renewed debates around the welfare of ageing entertainers in Nigeria. Kenneth Aguba starred in numerous Nollywood films during his peak, yet ended up in destitution before the intervention by OPM.

Meanwhile, the pastor has urged Nigerians to join him in praying for Aguba’s recovery. “We ask for prayers because prayer changes things. We are doing our part, and we believe God will do His,” he said.

In related developments, Apostle Chinyere has been involved in various philanthropic efforts, including the construction of houses for poor families, food distribution, and free education initiatives under the OPM umbrella.
