Peter Obi Olu Jacobs tribute says the late actor represented the excellence of the Nigerian spirit after his family announced his death on 16 September

Presidential aspirant Peter Obi has written a tribute to veteran actor Olu Jacobs after the actor’s family announced that he died on 16 September 2026.

The family statement was reported on Wednesday. Olu Jacobs’s son announced the death, thanked God for his father’s life and asked bloggers and social media influencers to respect the family’s privacy.

Peter Obi said on social media that he was saddened by the news. He said Olu Jacobs had made substantial contributions to film in Britain and Nigeria over several decades.

“Olu Jacobs represented the excellence of the Nigerian spirit,” Peter Obi wrote. “He exemplified this through his remarkable contributions to the film and creative industry, in a career spanning several decades across both Britain and Nigeria.”

Peter Obi said the actor’s death was a reminder that time is limited and that public responsibility should be discharged so that society benefits. “This was what Olu Jacobs was renowned for. He lived a life that demonstrated the power of talent, discipline, professionalism and dedication to one’s craft.”

Peter Obi said his thoughts and prayers were with the family, friends, colleagues and the Nigerian creative community.

He prayed for fortitude for the family and the country and for eternal rest for Olu Jacobs.

The tribute adds a political voice to the condolences that followed the family’s announcement.
