Portable Arrest Defamation: Singer arrested for defamation against Fuji legend Saheed Osupa. Police cite threats, incitement, and public disturbance in arrest warrant

 

 

Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikilola Badmus, known as Portable, has been arrested and detained by the Kwara State Police Command following serious allegations of defamation levelled against him by renowned Fuji musician, Saheed Osupa.

The arrest follows a formal petition detailing accusations of criminal defamation, threats to life, incitement, character assassination, and actions likely to disturb public peace, including the use of abusive language.

SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, confirmed that sufficient evidence was presented alongside the petition, leading to the issuance of an arrest warrant by a Magistrate Court in Ilorin. Police operatives tracked Portable to Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he was apprehended at 7:25 p.m. on Sunday, 13 April 2025.

The singer was subsequently transported to Ilorin for questioning. “Upon his arrival, the suspect’s statement was recorded in the presence of legal representatives from both sides,” SP Ejire-Adeyemi stated.

The police have confirmed that Portable remains in custody as they finalise preparations to arraign him in court. This arrest marks a significant escalation in the ongoing feud between Portable and Saheed Osupa, which has captured public attention due to its contentious nature and the serious allegations involved.

The legal proceedings will determine the outcome of the defamation claims and the potential consequences for the singer.

The incident highlights the serious legal ramifications of online and public statements, particularly when they involve allegations of defamation and threats.
