Bold Faith Warning from Mary Njoku calls on African Christians to combine prayer with action in solving real-world challenges

Nollywood actress Mary Njoku on Thursday issued a Bold Faith Warning to African Christians, urging believers to balance prayer with practical action in addressing pressing societal challenges such as insecurity, poor infrastructure and economic hardship.

In a detailed post shared on her Instagram account, Mary Njoku argued that while prayer remains important for guidance and strength, physical problems require deliberate planning, accountability and human effort to achieve lasting solutions.

She stated that essential services such as food production, healthcare delivery and road infrastructure cannot function through prayer alone, stressing that they depend on work, systems and responsible governance.

According to Mary Njoku, even spiritual teachings in the Bible demonstrate that provision often comes through people taking action, working the land, transporting goods and delivering services that sustain daily life.

The actress said African Christians must avoid confusing faith with inaction, noting that challenges such as insecurity and failing public services require coordinated effort rather than spiritual declarations alone.

In a powerful section of her message, she emphasised that faith and action are not opposing forces but complementary tools that must work together for meaningful progress in society.

Mary Njoku also addressed recurring debates within religious circles about the role of prayer in national development, insisting that citizens must take responsibility alongside their spiritual beliefs.

Her remarks come amid wider public discussions involving religious voices and entertainment figures on the role of faith leaders in addressing Nigeria’s socio-political challenges.

Cleric Mike Bamiloye recently defended the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, stating that it is unreasonable to expect an 84-year-old religious leader to lead public protests against government policies.

Similarly, actress Julianna Olayode has previously cautioned against criticism of pastors over national insecurity, arguing that their primary role is spiritual intercession, counselling and engagement with authority under divine guidance.

Mary Njoku’s latest statement adds to ongoing conversations within Nigeria’s religious and public spheres about the balance between spirituality, civic responsibility and governance.

She has also previously used her platform to advocate for gratitude, discernment in prayer, and openness to medical solutions such as IVF, urging religious communities to avoid dismissing practical interventions in pursuit of divine expectations alone.
